When Chestnut Hill College junior Stephan Wolfert put on his uniform this weekend he was not putting on his usual jiujitsu garb.
Wolfert was dressed in an all-yellow outfit in order to be a snitch for the Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament hosted by his school.
“I wanted to play Quidditch,” the computer information technology major said. “I wasn’t really into the whole game but being a snitch sounded like a lot of fun because I could just mess with people and make people mad.”
The job of the snitch is to run around the grounds and hide from the seekers. The seeker’s job is to catch the snitch in order to win the game. Wolfert had only been a snitch once before playing in this tournament, but he said he didn’t have to do much preparation for the job.
“I’m just into staying in shape and I do Brazilian jiujitsu so that kind of helps me because I can kind of throw people around,” he said.
But, he said, the job isn’t always very safe.
“The hardest part is when you get head-butted accidentally,” he said.
Although the snitch is not a part of either team during the game, Wolfert practices with the rest of the Chestnut Hill Griffen’s players. They accept him as part of the team, he said.
“We all go to practice and we all have fun with it. I have my jobs and they have their jobs and we just enjoy ourselves and try to have fun,” he said.
Wolfert said he plans on being the snitch in future Quidditch tournaments.
It’s funny that he’s so willing to accept the fact that head butting is an accident, and risk that comes with snitching, in this article. He didn’t seem to think so at the tournament.
