Saturday was a beautiful day for a lemonade stand.

Sandra Stewart thanked everyone who came out to her daughter Corin’s Alex’s Lemonade Stand outside of Marinucci’s Deli on the corner of St. Vincent street and Brous avenue in Mayfair.

Corin was diagnosed at the age of 5 with a malignant tumor (rhabdomyosarcoma) behind her left eye. Now, Corin is 9 years old and a third-grader at St. Matthew’s School and cancer-free for four years.

This is Corin’s second time holding an Alex’s Lemonade Stand outside of Marinucci’s; the first was in 2010. But this time, it’s for a celebration of her remission and to give back to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The foundation helped Corin get to and from Jacksonville, Fla., for proton radiation treatment at the Proton Treatment Institute.

The foundation was started in 2000 when 4-year-old cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott sold lemonade outside of Penn Wynne Elementary in Wynnewood, Pa., and the funds raised going to all children who have cancer.

“Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is a great organization and we just want to give back to them for helping us,” Stewart said. ”We are grateful everything was donated.”

The Philly Pretzel Factory chipped in with pretzels, and Marinucci’s gave chips through Herr’s. Pizza was donated by Merc Bros Pizzeria and water ice came from both Rita’s and Dattilo’s in Rhawnhurst. There wouldn’t be a lemonade stand without lemonade; Canada Dry donated 10 cases of Country Time.

“You can take whatever you want and give any donation you want,” Stewart said of the food prices. Many people turned out to support Corin and her family.

When asked what’s her favorite subject Corin said happily, “gym because you get to have fun.” Next year Corin will be five years cancer-free and that’s something to have fun for.

If you would like to donate to this cause you can contribute to Corin’s Alex’s Lemonade Stand online.
