Convoy of Hope organized a massive event known as The Convoy Philadelphia on September 14th to bring the community together and provide them services.

A nonprofit organization, Convoy of Hope works across America to provide free services, such as providing groceries, clothes and haircuts.

At Convoy Philadelphia, which was hosted at Harding Middle School in Frankford, they gave back to community and also had medical tents, a job fair and a prayer tent. Pastors from local churches, such as Richard Smith from Faith Assembly of God, stood to give sermons to help inspire the community and their lives.

Many churches from around the area came together to help with the event. Volunteers from Campbell AME Church, who were giving out food at St. Mark’s church earlier in the day, went to Convoy Philadelphia to assist.

“We’re going to feed 4,000,” said Phil Robinson, a volunteer at Campbell AME Church. “We got hot dogs, soda, potato chips, bags of groceries, free haircuts, medical care, schoolbags for the kids. Everything free. The churches is coming together and working together.”

Convoy Philadelphia was also hosted at seven other locations in the city which included West Oak Lane, Tioga, South Kensington, Olney, Germantown and North Kensington.

“I sung at the Campbell AME Church last Saturday for shock awareness,” said gospel singer, Cynthia White. “I was invited by one of their members. One of their friends got me here today.”

White was one of many people to get up in the park and sing for the community. Others stood around smiling and clapping to her performance. White said that was one of many reasons why she was at the event today.

“I’m here to sing, meet new people, mingle, meet new churches, do some more singing, help someone feel better,” she said. “Whatever I’m needed, I try to be there for that.”

Hundreds of people had come together for Convoy Philadelphia, to receive help and to give help as well.
