Residents of the Solid Rock United Methodist Church community gathered for the first annual Harvest Festival on Friday, Oct. 25 at 199 E. Tabor Rd.

Groups of children gathered around Reverend Margaret Powell as she led them in song and through a rousing game of “Hot Pumpkin.”

The event featured free food, pumpkin picking and painting, marshmallow roasting, story time, and other activities suitable for children and their parents.

The Philadelphia Orchard Project provided the pumpkins, which were hidden around the grounds of the church for children to find, and other harvest decor, including hay for the event.

POP and Solid Rock are planning to break ground in Spring 2014 for the on-site orchard, an “edible garden” that will be capable of producing approximately 2,000 pounds of produce to be distributed through the church’s food-bank service run in conjunction with SHARE.
