The South African Wealth Gap: Post-apartheid Inequalities

The World Bank’s development indicators say South Africa has one of the highest levels of income inequality in the world. A small ten percent of the population control the majority of the nation’s income.  After apartheid was abolished in 1994, the African National Congress made some strides towards fixing the injustices of the past.  However, those injustices are still lingering in the form of an unemployment rate of 25.60 percent and an inadequate educational system. Employment and education are the biggest factors contributing to the South Africa wealth gap.  Experts say it is going to take years of reform to rectify these issues.
