If you’ve been wondering what the East Falls Dog Park Planning Committee has been up to lately, look no further than Franklin’s Bar & Grille on Bowman Street in East Falls.

On Saturday October 26th, people from all over the Manayunk-East Falls area came with their furry friends to participate in an event, hosted by the restaurant, featuring a dog costume contest and “yappy hour.” The event also featured a free Halloween portrait booth for families and their festively clad canines, as well as a raffle for a variety of doggie bags. Dressed in their holiday best were an assortment of masquerading mutts such as a cocker spaniel disguised as a witch, a corgi dressed as peas in a pod, and even a boxer dolled up as Marilyn Monroe.

Lizzie Charlick-Bray, one of the starters of the East Falls Dog Park Committee, explained her role in the event and how the idea got started.

“My husband, Braxton, and I lived in San Diego for the past six years before we moved here,” Charlick-Bray said. “San Diego is totally dog friendly. They used to have ‘yappy hours’ and dog costume contests so in September, when we had our first meeting, I said, ‘This is what we need to do.’”

A portion of all the proceeds from the event went to the East Falls Dog Park Committee.

The winner of the dog costume contest was a boxer dressed up as Marilyn Monroe in her iconic "Seven Year Itch" dress.
