Northern Liberties: Five Unique Places To Find Caffeine

Northern Liberties has no shortage of cafés to get caffeine. Throughout this small section of Philadelphia, a number of places offer something unique or with twist to give customers something different to try.

One Shot Coffee

One Shot Coffee (seen above), located at 217 W. George St., has a menu full of unique drinks including a honey rose chai, lavender blueberry lattes and “gingerer” cayenne mochas. It also offers a wide range of snacks and baked goods.

Rabbit Hole Café

“Our main thing is shaved ice and bubble tea,” said Daisy Long, manager of Rabbit Hole Café, located at 800 N. Second St. “We added coffee because so many people kept requesting it.”

This shop has also introduced Vietnamese specialties to its menu to separate itself from the other coffee shops in the area.

Soy Café

Soy Café is located at 630 N. Second St. and doesn’t rely on any dairy for their coffee.

“We’re definitely health focused and cater to a whole bunch of different diets,” said Miriam Thompson, an employee at the café, who also pointed out unique items such as a beet juice latte on the menu.

Higher Grounds

Higher Grounds rely on its interactions with the community to stay unique.

“We hang up local art every month, maybe more often,” said Mitch Marzec, an employee at the coffee shop. According to Marzec, the shop, located at 631 N. Third St., is very artist friendly and has hosted a few art shows.

The Random Tea Room and Curiosity Shop

This shop only has one drink made with coffee but that does not mean there is no caffeine. The Random Tea Room and Curiosity Shop can be found at 713 N. Fourth St. and focuses on health, doing so through tea.

“The tea shop has its own energy,” said Corinne Deehan who is a manager at the shop, “it’s restorative.”
