Torresdale is like many other neighborhhoods — filled with people who work hard and like to let loose and have fun when they are done. Thankfully, no matter what your taste may be, there is a bar in Torresdale for you.
Dagwood’s Pub
Pride and tradition are the main focus at Dagwood’s Pub, located 4625 Linden Ave. Although North Catholic High School closed in 2010, you wouldn’t know it here.
“I’m a 1987 graduate of North,” said Ed Grzeskiewicz, whose family has owned Dagwood’s since his graduation year. “I grew up in Juniata Park. We have a lot of alumni that come in here, and we have a lot of Falcons pride.”
Like Grzeskiewicz, many people who grew up in Kensington and Juniata Park have since moved to Torresdale, so Dagwood’s makes North Catholic alumni feel right at home.
Crafty’s Taproom
Crafty’s Taproom, located at 3332 Grant Ave. in the Grant and Academy Shopping Center, offers more than 20 craft beers on tap and another dozen or more selections in bottles.
“We really try to push the craft selection,” bartender Mike Nolde said, adding he believes the wide selection is a big part of the bar’s success. “We serve from all local breweries.”
While you’re enjoying an IPA or Alagash, you can play bubble hockey or test your skill with the giant Jenga and Connect 4 games that Crafty’s has to keep patrons entertained.
Brick House Bar & Grill
Next door to Crafty’s is Brick House Bar & Grill, a sports bar offering specials during Phillies, Flyers and Eagles games.
“Our sports specials really make the Brick House a great place to indulge while you catch the game for a reasonable price,” manager and owner Steve Clark said.
The Brick House features live entertainment including DJs, karaoke and live bands on the weekends.
Three Monkeys Cafe
If you are looking for an outdoor drinking and dining experience, Three Monkeys Cafe has what you are looking for. The Monkey Court offers plenty of tables and a bar area, all in a forest- and monkey-themed setting. The scenery includes signs, artificial bamboo — and even a statue of a monkey.
“Three Monkeys is my favorite place to get a good drink, meal and unwind after a long day,” Gabby Pristera, a student at nearby Holy Family University, said. “The Monkey Cove is easily the coolest outdoor area in a restaurant I’ve ever seen.”
Located across the street from the Torresdale regional rail station, Three Monkeys is convenient for after-work dinner and drinks.
Maggie’s Waterfront Cafe
In addition to its bar, restaurant and outdoor patio, Maggie’s Waterfront Cafe, at 9242 N. Delaware Ave., offers a view of the Delaware River from its river deck on the second floor. Maggie’s, in business since 2008, offers 60 beers on tap along with a large menu, including its famous fries with a secret seasoning and cheesesteak spring rolls.
Natalie Pawlus, a manager of the restaurant, said Maggie’s is as much a bar as it is a family restaurant. Maggie’s offers lunch specials Monday through Friday and a variety of live entertainment at various times during the week.
