Universal Companies, located at 1415 Catherine St. in South Philadelphia, is preparing for its summer events, said Shakoor Dawud, an employee of the Philadelphia-based nonprofit.
In addition to a charter school and other services, the organization has a playground, which will be hosting a Mural Dedication event on May 25, Dawud said.
The dedication is the product of a partnership between Universal Companies, the City of Philadelphia Department of Human Services and the Philadelphia Prison System, according to Universal Companies’ website. Universal Companies is starting its “Celebration of Excellence in Public Education Week,” which will be starting on June 8.
The celebration will include a series of events, such as the Education Symposium, the First Annual Education is Power benefit, the Annual Children’s Wellness Health Fair and a Student Power Education luncheon, according to its website. Some of the additional services that Universal Companies provides are family social services, such as free legal services, food assistance, housing and rental services, consumer education and help with reading and writing. The Universal Homeownership and Financial Literacy Center is located at 800 S. 15th St.
