It was the wide variety that drew in Angela Oliveira, a West Philadelphia mother with a passion for literature. But it was the devotion to educating her community that kept her coming back, especially now that book bans targeting black authors are on the rise.

Little League pitcher Mo’Ne Davis made history on the mound. As she grew up, her ambitions continued to evolve. After playing softball at Hampton University and earning her bachelor’s degree in journalism, she decided it was time to leave the dugout and take a swing at the business side of sports.

At the Philadelphia Department of Prisons, the New Leash on Life program pairs inmates with rescue dogs, fostering mutual rehabilitation and fresh starts through training, responsibility, and compassion. This initiative reduces repeat offenses and gives both inmates and dogs a second chance.

When places were closed during the pandemic, many musicians faced challenges trying to find places to perform their music at. Now places are open to the public and are letting bands perform at their buildings for people to eat and drink to enjoy a good show.

Cecil B. Moore Library has been struggling since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its community has rallied to get it the budget necessary for much-needed renovations through the Rebuild program.

Despite being right across the street from a high school and in the heart of a neighborhood filled with generations of families, the Amos Playground Pool has not been filled in three years. The city says it is not on the ‘rebuild list’, and there are no plans to fill the pool in the future.
