This September the Snap-Ed program was cut as a part of the Trump Administration’s One Big Beautiful Bill. This bill cuts taxes, changes federal spending levels, raises the national debt limit, and reshapes funding across multiple agencies and programs throughout the federal government.
The program served about 43,000 students in Philadelphia through the Eat Right Philly program, which provided students with nutrition education, cooking lessons, and support for healthier diets and lifestyles. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Education website, more than 70% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Advocates say that loss of snap ed leaves a huge gap in nutrition access and education across Philadelphia.
