Latino business owners gather at annual Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce event

More than 75 businesses convened in Philadelphia this week for an event aimed at helping local entrepreneurs navigate the challenges of starting and growing a company. Hosted by the Great Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the annual gathering focused on connecting small business owners with resources, information, and one another.

“We are giving the opportunity to help businesses know what is going on in Philadelphia, know how to do business in Philadelphia and how to make it in Philadelphia. That is our goal,” said Mayra Soto, member engagement manager for the Great Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The annual gathering brings together small business owners, customers, and community leaders, creating opportunities for networking, exposure, and long-term growth. Organizers say the event has become an important platform for boosting the local economy and helping businesses expand beyond their early stages.

For many guests, the event was more than simply an opportunity to promote their company; it was a chance to network and gain knowledge from others facing similar challenges. According to many small business owners who attended the event, this kind of skill-sharing is essential in a competitive marketplace.

“This is where we get the advocacy to level the playing field. We get to test among each other while networking on what works and does not work so we do not make the same mistakes.” Said by Jose Urdaneta, owner of Urdaneta Photography

In addition to networking opportunities, the event featured a range of sponsors and small businesses set up throughout the space, allowing attendees to directly engage with local entrepreneurs.

Tables lined the venue, where business owners showcased their products and services, from startups looking to gain exposure to more established companies strengthening their presence in the community. Organizers said these setups are a key part of the event, giving businesses a chance to connect face-to-face with potential customers and partners.

“They include our business in the event, so it’s a big family that supports you with your business and just helps you grow.” Said by Marcela Benito, co-owner of Hope Sisters Cleaning Service.

The event featured three guest speakers who shared their thoughts on the future of small businesses in Philadelphia including David Vahos, Micheal DelBene, and Jonathon Todd.

Two of the speakers, both involved in organizing upcoming tourism events for the summer, emphasized the opportunities that will present for local businesses and how they can get involved in the economic boom.

“For local business, there is multiple different ways to gain economic opportunity, the study that we have so far, is that the city of Philadelphia, in June and July, during the World Cup, and during the 250th anniversary celebration, we’ll see about a one billion dollars of economic impact in just 60 days”, Micheal DelBene, Executive Producer of Welcome America and Director of Fan Experience for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

As Philadelphia gears up for a busy summer, organizers say events like this help local businesses stay ready for new opportunities.
