Hannah House Inc., located at 2831 N. Hutchison St. in Fairhill, has been helping women for over 20 years. It has made efforts to accommodate women who have been incarcerated, who are on pre-release from state institutions and who are at risk of returning to prison.
“One of the things we are doing here is working with these women step by step, showing them how to access the resources available in the community. Once they are discharged from here they do not run into those kinds of issues again and now know how to seek help” said Tara Batchler-Taylor, executive director of Hannah House.
The house provides shelter and access to counseling, as well as opportunities to volunteer in the community. “I choose to do the community service at the library, which
I enjoy, and I am actively involved in AA (Alcohol Anonymous) as well as actively engaged in the job search. I am able to do these things with all the support from various people here,” said Lisa Magine, a Hannah House resident.
According to the Hannah House website, “Hannah House Inc. is dedicated to assisting women who have been incarcerated in achieving economic self-sufficiency, employment, education, counseling and nutrition services as well as medical and psychiatric services.”
With excellent support and direction, Hannah House has provided an undeniable benefit to the women who have been struggling with moving forward in their lives.
