Our Lady of Hope has developed a variety of ways to not only leave a positive impact on the community but also bring local residents together.

“It all started years ago when a generous man delivered 14 cooked turkeys for Thanksgiving. This touched me very deeply after seeing how happy people were to have a real Thanksgiving dinner,” said Sister Mary Catherine Manley, who has been serving the church for 11 years. Since then the church has begun constructing new ideas for events and fundraisers.

Our Lady of Hope provides a variety of charities to help the less fortunate. Fundraisers such as fashion shows, casino trips and block party festivals are just a few ways Our Lady of Hope engages itself in the community. The church also teams up with the Girl Scouts to collect canned goods.

Leadership workshops are also available four times a year and are designed to help members of the neighborhood get to know one another and teach them how to cope with hard times. “We are constantly trying to build a community among ourselves,” said Sister Mary.

Although Our Lady of Hope does not possess a food pantry, it can still be used as a limited resource for food. Sister Mary explained that if food is not available, she will find a resource that supplies it.

Donations are always welcome to those who wish to give. Our Lady of Hope will be hosting a charity fashion show on April 19 and encourages the neighborhood to join the church for lunch and the show.

  1. Tina DiSerafino wrote a nice piece about my old church on Broad Street. We knew it as Holy Child. Now it is called Our Lady of Hope….or is is Lady of Peace?

Seems some editing by editors is worthwhile here.

  2. I Have the most wonderful past with Holy Child, it made an impact in my heart, I feel i can always come home. No new name or people can ever change my heart. Yet, I met the most beautiful new people. Father Efrin and Sister Cathrine, you are a blessing to all who listen. Thank you so much. May the Lord continue his works, through you. Much gratitude.
    Always, Maria
