BSR: Get Ready for Book Week 2025

Broad Street Review has announced its much-anticipated third annual Book Week! This exciting week will offer various events and discussions, including book reviews, recommendations, and giveaways to celebrate the love of reading and support local writers.

As for the main highlight of the week, a panel discussion featuring local authors will give residents an inside look at how the city of brotherly love impacts and informs the work of local writers. Residents will have an opportunity to get involved and ask questions during the Q&A.

The panel will be hosted over Zoom on Wednesday, June 4th 6:30 p.m. ET and will feature Philadelphia authors Elise Juska, John Morrison, Tre Johnson, Annie Liontas, and Eric Smith. Donations are encouraged but not required to attend.

Elise Juska’s novel Reunion, out in paperback this May, was named a New York Times Editors’ Choice and one of People Magazine’s Best New Books. A Philadelphia native, Juska was the founding director of the UArts creative writing program and is currently a Visiting Professor at Bryn Mawr College.

John Morrison is a DJ and music journalist from Philadelphia. Morrison’s work has appeared in The New York Times, Spin Magazine, and NPR Music.

Tre Johnson is a freelance writer and critic on race and culture whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, New York Times, Vox, San Francisco Chronicle, The Washington Post, and several other outlets.
His first book, the nonfiction work BLACK GENIUS: Essays on an American Legacy, will be published by Dutton Books at Penguin Random House in Summer 2025.

Annie Liontas is the trans-genderqueer author of the memoir Sex with a Brain Injury: On Concussion and Recovery, which won the ALA’s 2025 Stonewall Award for Nonfiction and was shortlisted for The Athenaeum of Philadelphia’s Literary Award. Their debut novel, Let Me Explain You, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice book.

Eric Smith, literary agent and YA author of With or Without You, Don’t Read the Comments, and Jagged Little Pill: The Novel.
