Foster Trophy and Awards Co. has been located in North Central since 1968 where it was first established by William Foster’s parents. The business is the third oldest on Cecil B. Moore Avenue and located at 1718 Cecil B. Moore Ave.
Foster stands as the second-generation owner since he took over in 1995 after both his parents died. Ever since his parents deaths he has been operating the family business on his own and is proud of his work.
“The business engraves trophies, plaques, awards and much more,” Foster explained. “The trophies and awards come in all different sizes, shapes and styles depending on your needs.”
Foster said he tries to fulfill specific requirements made by his customers and seeks to honor their special requests.
The bulk of Foster’s clientele consists of over 450 churches across the country from Florida to Milwaukee. Customers can order their trophy, plaque, shirt or specialty item in many different ways. Customers may order online, through fax, call in or simply walk into the store. Foster ships all over the country and also provides a rush service for customers.
Foster Trophy and Awards Co. is one of the first African American businesses that became involved with the Advertising Specialty Institute. The Advertising Specialty Institute is a worldwide organization that helps narrow down thousands of manufacturers through lists and indexes. This makes searching for a specific business much easier.
The company currently has over 40 consistent clients, but Foster said he has felt the negative effects of the economy.
“My business has drastically decreased because most of our clients gave awards for recognition purposes, but now a lot of those clients are cutting back on their budget,” Foster said.
Foster Trophy and Awards Co. is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The store can be reached at 215-236-1155.
