Since becoming officially recognized as a federal holiday by former president Joe Biden in 2021, Juneteenth has been celebrated by the Black community in major cities like Philadelphia, and in smaller cities like Scranton.
Neighborhoods reporter Lalaj Johnson joined the celebration hosted by The Black Project of Scranton for its 6th Annual Juneteenth Jubilee on Thursday, June 19th.
Scranton is a rapidly diversifying city, with over 5,000 black residents and over 12,000 Latino residents within the city, according to the U.S Census Bureau 2023 report.
