Chestnut Hill: Restaurant Month Brings Reservations to Germantown Avenue

Restaurants, like McNally's Tavern, are the main attraction on Germantown Avenue this month.

“[Restaurant Month] is a definite reason to check out Chestnut Hill,” said Anne McNally, owner of McNally’s Tavern at 8634 Germantown Ave. Her restaurant is just one of many participating in this month’s festivities.

For the month of March, participating restaurants in Chestnut Hill are offering various lunch and dinner specials. Germantown Avenue will be buzzing with restaurant goers from the community and surrounding area. Many business owners said they hope the event will allow the area to see some growth.

The Chestnut Hill Business Association put the month together as a way to showcase the area, said McNally, a board member. They felt that one week just wasn’t enough time. “[We are] a smaller, more unique area and we have plenty to show off that people may not know about.”

Jarred Cannon, head chef at Iron Hill Brewery at 8400 Germantown Ave., said that the restaurant uses the month to promote the bar, food and neighborhood simultaneously. During the month Iron Hill Brewery will offer tasting menus and food pairings as well.

Ultimately, the month is a way to instill pride in Chestnut Hill and the areas unique restaurants. Karissa Just, manager of Mica at 8609 Germantown Ave. said many people have been calling in the last week about making reservations. Mica is a new restaurant, open for just over a year, and they are hoping that participation in Restaurant Month will boost business and help them gain new exposure.

The good prices draw people to the area for the month but the food will tempt them to stay, said McNally.
