This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Keystone State Boychoir. In 2001, Joseph Fitzmartin and Steven Fisher founded Commonwealth Youthchoirs and today the Keystone State Boychoir is known all over the world. Located at the First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, the choir consists of over 150 young men between the ages eight and 18.  The repertoire consists of both classical and contemporary music, with occasional dance moves by the boys.  The boys have been to every continent and have performed in countries including Japan, Brazil and Germany to name a few.

The idea for the choir came when Fisher and Fitzmartin decided that they wanted to have a choir that was different from the one they were in. “We started with 35 boys, and 10 years later we have almost 170,” Fitzmartin said.  Unlike other choirs, the boys are allowed to stay in the choir throughout high school, which is unique because many choirs let the boys go after their voices change.

The boys are currently preparing for their next concert tour, which will take place overseas. This summer, the boys will be traveling to South Africa for a special Ten Year Anniversary concert.

The Keystone State Boychoir is always looking for more members. Any boys interested in getting involved can contact Mary Ann Case to set up an audition.
