Feltonville: Colombian Bakery Cooks Up Treats

From the outside, Delicias Criollas Columbianas Bakery welcomes customers with a bright yellow sign and plenty of offers written on the window for those who wish to satisfy their taste buds.
The owner, Rosemary Paicedo explained the different kinds of treats available throughout her bakery.

Though the name may make someone think Delicias Criollas Colombians Bakery only caters to the large Latino community in Feltonville, shop owner Rosemary Paicedo said part of the reason why she loves owning the bakery in this area is the diversity of the clientele.

“So many different races in this area like different treats, we just try to please each one,” Paciedo said.

Paciedo has been at 143 E. Wyoming Ave. for three years and before that was located at nearby Rising Sun Avenue for five years

Upon entering the bakery, not only does the smell of sweet pastries and freshly brewed Colombian coffee entice customers, but the bright red walls and black-and-white checkered floor also add an inviting feel.

Though Paciedo prides herself on the bakery’s extensive Colombian selection of treats, she said they try their best to offer delicacies for all taste buds.

“We have cheesecakes, cookies and flan. My specialty is breads and fried foods,” Paicedo said.

For those who don’t fancy sweets, Delicias Criollas Colombianas Bakery also offers a large variety of breads and empanadas, which are turnovers with a flaky crust. Paicedo said that while most locations only offer beef or chicken empanadas, Delicias Criollas is one of the only establishments in Philadelphia to offer all three options of beef, chicken and cheese empanadas.

“Though we have foods for everyone, I make sure that anyone looking can always find the Colombian brands in coffee and authentic snacks,” she said.

  1. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog. An excellent read. I’ll certainly be back.

  2. OMG I love the bakery….The empanadas with there homemade hot sauce are an amazing depth of flavors packed into such a simple “eat with your hands and enjoy” type of food. The chicharon is also soooo good. This bakery is a great way to experience Columbian delights and the culture surrounding them. If your Columbian you already know and love the things Rosa does so well. If your not, this is your chance to expereince and indulge in the culture!! Also, Gisel, the girl at the counter has great people skills. You feel like your in their home to eat over. I love this place!
