Located in the heart of Olney’s business district along North Fifth Street, where nearly every building houses a storefront, My Daughter’s Wedding’s windows display bright, embellished gowns that cause many passersby to stop and stare.

With two floors of designer gowns and tuxedos for weddings, proms and other formal occasions, it’s no wonder the shop has been a fixture in the Olney community for 27 years. Jung Ahn estimated that his parents’ family-owned business has outfitted thousands of wedding parties throughout the years.

“We always try to offer really competitive rates for our services in general,” Jung Ahn said.

The shop’s services, which include tailoring and limousine rentals, were once limited to beauty supplies. In 1986 Paul and Yon Ahn set up shop as a cosmetics store at 5642 N. Fifth St. Bridal parties often came in to buy makeup for weddings and the Ahns quickly saw the need for a formal wear shop in the neighborhood. Now, the blocks of North Fifth Street surrounding My Daughter’s Wedding are peppered with gown shops, but the Ahns have maintained a loyal customer base.

“We have customers come in who got married, had children and they bring their prom suits here,” Jung Ahn said.

The Ahns make a point of giving back to the community that has kept them in business for more than a quarter century by providing free prom attire and limousines to students from various high schools in Philadelphia.

“Sometimes outreach programs or school counselors will ask us to sponsor someone from their school for prom,” Jung Ahn said. “What we do is we give them free tuxedos, free dresses, free limousines, we give them a free prom pretty much.”

With a selection of dozens of dress and accessory designers in stock, the shop continues to outfit prom students for free nearly every year and help Olney residents celebrate special occasions year-round.
