Germantown: Five Black-Owned Small Businesses Prospering In The Community

Germantown is one of the oldest settlements in Philadelphia. Known for its historical landmarks such as the Germantown White HouseThe Johnson House and many more, the history tracks almost three centuries of settlement, patriotism and abolitionism. But it has more to offer than just history including an abundance of small businesses.

Here are five black-owned businesses around Germantown and Chelten avenues that offer a variety of services for everyone who comes in.

Logan Floral Designs And Gifts

Those looking to find a flower arrangement for a special occasion can go to Logan Floral Designs and Gifts (above), which offers a variety of flower arrangements and gifts. From its discounted prices to customer satisfaction, this family-run business services occasions such as weddings, proms, funerals and more. Open six days a week, the business deliver throughout Philadelphia as well as surrounding area.

Wild Styles Barbershop

5922 Germantown Ave.

Wild Styles Barbershop is a family-run business which opened eight years ago. Wild Styles services men, women and children. The barbershop offers all types of styling at reasonable prices with walk-ins and appointments always welcome.

Round Of A Paws Pet Boutique

5843 Germantown Ave.

While a fairly new business, many can’t seem to keep their paws off of it. Round Of A Paws is a pet store serving all-natural organic food and pet grooming for both cats and dogs. As a pet lover and someone who competes in dog shows worldwide, owner Ali Muhsim, is excited about his new business and said he has great things in store.

“We want to expand services from dog-walking to pet-sitting by the summertime,” Muhsim said. “As for the second level, we are looking to get a vet and create a doggy hotel.”

 

God’s Given Gift Salon

“Without God, we can’t – Without us, He won’t!” is what owner Rhonda Crosson lives by on a day-to-day basis. Opening her salon in 2007, God’s Given Gift is a place she created to make people feel welcomed while offering top quality hair products. The salon specializes in haircutting, coloring, weaving and offers a $30 daily walk-in special.

Philadelphia Hair Company

5805 Germantown Avenue

The stars are in line for Philadelphia Hair Company. Known as a celebrity barbershop, PHC services celebrity clients such as actors and athletes. Focusing on old-school customer service, PHC provides hair cuts, coloring, design and more. Celebrating being open for 26 years, the shop continues to make a difference in the community.
