Artisan Boulanger Patissier probably sticks out like a sore thumb to a lot of people. Located at 1646 S. 12th St., it is in the heart of South Philadelphia. Being that it is located in an area known for Italian-inspired cafe’s and shops, it seems slightly strange taking a very much Francophile-type establishment seriously, but Artisan Boulanger Patissier, a French bread and pastry shop, is absolutely no joke.

In the front the store, some of the more savory goods are displayed.

Loosely translated, Artisan Boulanger Patissier means a baker of handcrafted pastries and that is exactly what owners and Cambodian émigrés Amanda Eap and Andre Chin are. The two opened up the shop to create and sell some of the finest French breads and pastries around, as the two lived in Paris for 16 years while Andre trained to become a French pastry chef before making the move to the United States.

The incredibly unassuming shop offers delectable baguettes, grain breads, pastries and even breakfast sandwiches that are served on an unbelievably buttery and flakey croissant. Whether you are just in the area and looking to pop in for a quick snack or you are looking to get a few loaves together for dinner, Artisan Boulanger Patissier is an incredibly modest place to do so and offer some seriously delicious goods to boast about.
