Colored patio sets occupied by chatty groups of people line the block in front of the Market Street side of 30th Street Station.
What was previously a parking lot became a success story after its grand reveal last year.
The area, now known as The Porch, offers weekly entertainment for professionals, students and travelers to enjoy.
Lori Klein Brennan, director of marketing and communications for the University City District, said feedback has been better than expected.
“It’s been very positive. People love what we are doing there and we are getting lots of local as well as national attention,” said Brennan.
Cathy Gallagher said she likes to venture to The Porch due to its proximity to her office.
“Since the weather has been nicer, I take any opportunity for a break at work to get outside. I can walk to The Porch and eat my lunch at one of the outdoor tables. If I’m lucky, I catch some fantastic live music,” Gallagher said.
XPN Philly Local Wednesdays are a favorite on warm, sunny days at The Porch. Each week a different musician from the Philadelphia-area performs in the courtyard, free of charge.
On Wednesdays and Fridays, visitors can stop by during their lunch hours to grab a bite from one of the gourmet food trucks. The Sunflower Truck Stop, Spot Burger and Sweetbox Cupcakes are just a few of the several options offered to satisfy midday hunger.
Regular Porch programming includes fitness classes with BodyRock Bootcamp and a truly mobile art collection in the form of the Backpack Gallery.
Brennan said the number of beer garden events increased this year. The next beer garden is scheduled for May 16th and 17th from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature music from Perseverance Jazz Band.
