Just To Serve You, a West Philly soul food restaurant, recently opened its second location at 5132 N. Fifth St. Wrapping up the month- long grand opening of Just to Serve You, Too, owners reflected on the business so far, and where it is heading.
“There really aren’t any other soul food places in this area, so this location is really perfect,” said owner and Olney resident Nate Fields. Fields and mother-in-law, Vanessa Goodson of Wynnefield, said business has been promising since the new location opened its doors early last month.
The family-owned restaurant carries on its traditional menu consisting of soul food favorites, like smothered pork chops and candied yams, but offers unexpected twists like shrimp and chicken Alfredo as alternatives.
Both locations, Just to Serve You and Just to Serve You, Too, provide a similar lunch and dinner menu as well as catering service. Goodson said that the one unique benefit to the Olney location is that the building has a catering hall capable of seating 40 located above the restaurant. This convenience has allowed the family to cater two events so far and they look forward to catering more in the near future.
“My dream is to open five restaurants,” said Fields, who also cooks at the Olney location.
Fields said, “I’m not doing it for me. I’m doing it for my kids, my grandkids and my great-grandkids. I’ve got to leave something behind.”
Goodson hostesses at Just to Serve You, Too, keeping the family values tied to this restaurant above all else. Goodson’s daughter, Asenath Fields, contributes to the business as well, helping to create and sustain a pleasing menu for the restaurant’s spreading clientele.
This morning, I received the most horrible treatment at Just to Serve You Too, in Olney. The sign read open, and the schedule also said it was open at 8:00am on Thursday. The door was locked, so I rang the bell, I woman came from the back and just stared at me and my friend. She did not open the door, or give us any information, she simply stared. Shocked and disgusted by her cold treatment, we walked away. We were also standing in the rain. I’m disappointed, my family always supports your establishment. Why would your employee treat customers that way?
