Cobbs Creek: Business Association Members Work To Revive 60th Street

The 60th Street West Market Street Business Association caters to the needs of the community and helps new businesses gain their voices. As opportunities for businesses continue to develop on 60th Street between Market Street and Baltimore Avenue, the association has pushed to network among its peer organizations.

Loretta Ferguson, 81, is the treasurer and the oldest member of the association. She has lived through the stages of financial and social change happening in the community and is excited for the future of the organization.

“We have a new board of younger people and I think they’re going to be able to coordinate to make business better around here,” said Ferguson. “Difference in age has provided us different views on the community, but I think they are progressive.”

Community outreach has been a key factor in showing the neighborhood that members of the 60th Street West Market Street Business Association are people who care. Tami Hansbury, the coordinator of the association, expressed that a major concern has been collective support.

Recent involvement with community leaders and activities like the Sayre High School Safe Corridors program has shed light on the association’s dedication to involving itself in the affairs of Cobbs Creek.

“We are partnering to bring about change in the community, to try and expose the businesses more,” said Hansbury. “Rallying is essential to the preservation of businesses along 60th Street.”
