It started in the house of Zoe Lukas and her husband. Now, Whipped Bakeshop is known as one of the best bake shops in Philadelphia. The shop, which specializes in all baked goods has been open in Fishtown since Octobet 2009.
Whipped Bakeshop, located at the corner of Berks and Belgrade, won Best of Philly this year for best cupcake. Jenn Hall, the first employee at the shop, said the Red Velvet cupcake is the most popular item.
Hall added that the “Sasquatch” brownie is another popular item which has people coming back for. “Once you have the Sasquatch you never go back,” Hall said.
Besides the basics, the shop also specializes in designing cakes for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and everything else you can think of.
As many other businesses in Fishtown, Whipped Bakeshop makes a commitment to supporting local business. “We have some pretty unique products and we’re trying to support local business and be environmentally friendly,” Hall said.
They have also been contacted by the show Cupcake Wars, which is televised on Food Network. However, it is still unclear if Whipped Bakeshop will ever participate.
Store hours are noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
