Workers were cleaning up the mess after a sudden explosion and fire left a home on the 1100 block of Ontario Street literally a shell of its former self.
Verlene Stephens has been living on the 1000-block of Ontario Street for the past six years, and she can’t recall anything like this happening before.
“I’m still amazed that the house isn’t there. When I go to work, I always come this way, so I passed this house every day. It was such a nice house. I was over for dinner once,” Stephens said about the Monday incident.
The residents who lived in the house moved out around the beginning of November, Stephens said. It was for sale before the accident occurred late yesterday morning. “Their kids played with their kids played with their kids,” Stephens said as she pointed around from house to house. “It was very much a neighborhood thing.”
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. It is speculated that there was a gas leak that lead to an explosion, which resulted in the fire. One man was injured in the fire and was sent to the hospital.
