Northern Liberties: Local Cafes Utilize Social Media Outlets to Attract Customers

One attraction of Northern Liberties is its numerous restaurants and shops. The increase in  cafes and restaurants has created a competition between the local business owners who increasingly use social media outlets and mobile apps as one convenient and inexpensive way of attracting more customers.

Business owners in Northern Liberties, aware of the advantages of utilizing social media outlets and mobile apps, eagerly seek to attract customers residing all over Philadelphia that are unfamiliar with this area’s restaurants and shops.

Tucked away in the back streets of Northern liberties on the 800 and 900-block of Fourth St. are two local cafés that promote themselves through social media outlets. These cafes use Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, Instagram and Yelp to attract more customers.

Jugo Stevcic owner and head chief of Café Chismosa uses Facebook, Twitter, Yelp and Foursquare to promote specials and events at his Latin cuisine inspired café. “I’m in the process of finishing up with Groupon although I’m not sure if that’s considered social media but I tie it all in together and that’s how I try to promote” says Stevcic.

Café Chismosa will soon be launching a text based mobile marketing program through Echo Daily, a company that offers marketing services to businesses through various modes of technology. The service is a text message based loyalty program for customers who want to know about specials, deals and promotions of businesses.

Café La Maude is a French-Lebanese fusion restaurant on Fourth and Poplar St. in Northern Liberties.  Marc Kravitz is one of the employees at Café La Maude and explained the importance of social media’s role for the café. “At Café La Maude we use all different types of social media, the website is updated every week with our menu specials, same with Facebook and Twitter, everything is sent out to people who follow us” says Kravitz.

The French-Lebanese café uses various social media outlets and mobile apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Yelp. Kravits says “social media is vital right now because a lot people use their phones to find different local places to eat in, that’s why Yelp and other social media outlets are an important tool.”

Café La Maude and Café Chismosa use social media outlets and mobile apps to draw in more customers that normally would not be in Northern Liberties. The utilization of these social media tools is beneficial and essential in today’s modern world.
