Podcast: As the City’s First Medical Marijuana Dispensary Opens, Can it Offer Help for Those Suffering from Mental Illness?

Center City’s first medical marijuana dispensary has opened its door. Beyond/Hello is located at 12th and Samson streets. It’s one of 50 medical marijuana dispensaries operating in the state.

“We offer all acceptable products which are allowed in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania,” explained the dispensary’s pharmacist, Amanda DeCotes. “Capsules, cartridges, topical lotions, oil, and vaporizations.”

The dispensary currently does not carry edibles, because they are not approved by the state.

To gain access to the dispensary, one needs a state-issued medical cannabis card. For more information on how to get one, visit the department of health’s website.

DeCotes talked about how medical marijuana relates to mental-well being.

“Medical marijuana is frequently used for the treatment of mental illness and disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD and schizophrenia.”

The medical marijuana business continues to grow, with industry professionals saying by the year 2022, it will be a $60 billion business.
