The race kicked off at 9 a.m. and participants paid $25 in advance or $30 Saturday morning to run in teams or individually. All proceeds from the event went directly to the North Light Community Center for projects like tutoring and their educational after-school Kidzone child care.

“We are so looking forward to being able to help the community even more through this 5k,” said Deirdre Childs, a member of the North Light board of directors.

The top three men and the top three woman each received a medal and a gift card to Bryn Mawr Running Co. and the largest team all got tickets to see the Phillies. Event organizers had fresh food and drink ready for runners at the finish line.

Childs said they hope to make the race an annual event, expanding on this year’s success. The North Light Community Center serves more than 3000 people in Manayunk and the surrounding areas.
