Since Booby’s barbershop closed about ten years ago, the 2700 block of Allegheny Avenue has not had a barbershop in the area.
“Most people say that they have to drive all the way down to 22nd Street to get a fresh cut,” said Shawn Gordon, a local contractor who is helping to build a new barbershop on the block.
He said that he was happy to be apart of the revitalization of the corner and the community, beautifying the exterior of the soon-to-be Valdamir’s Barbershop.
A local investor who would not offer his name purchased he property that sits on the corner of 27th and Allegheny.
“My friend died of a sudden heart attack recently and I want to name my business in his honor,” the owner said. “I named my shop Valdamir in his honor.”
He expressed that he wants to give area residents a place where they can make a home for themselves.
The barbershop is due to be opened in the spring of 2014. Robert expressed that he is anxiously awaiting the grand opening of Valdamir’s in Allegheny West.
