In post apartheid South Africa there is a major focus on access. Citizens should have access to the resources they need and to the people and organizations who can provide them. But, as a new generation flocks to social media for news and updates on government affairs, it becomes a necessity to communicate through new media. The Congress of South African Trade Unions or COSATU is a trade union federation. COSATU is also one member of the three branch government structure known as the Tripartite Alliance. The Tripartite Alliance includes the ANC and the South African Communist Party, but out of the three members, COSATU is the only one that uses social media to access it’s nearly 2.2 million members.
