“My favorite part of the trip was the hayride,” said a first-grader from L.P. Hill Elementary School.
“No,” another student said. “My favorite was the seeing all the animals.”
Three bus loads of students from first, second and third grade, went on a field trip to MerryMead Farm, located 25 minutes outside of the city in Lansdale.
The farm had activities the children from Strawberry Mansion do not normally get to experience. There was a hayride around the farm, a cornstalk maze and a pumpkin match. They even got to hear the story of Johnny Appleseed from the farm’s scarecrow in the storytelling tent before the hayride.
The farm animals drew the most excitement from the students because they rarely get to see such creatures. At every station, which contained a different animal, the children would do their best impression of the animal. The kids would “moo” at the cows and “oink” at the pigs. All the while, they had big smiles on their faces.
Despite all the fun the children had, the chaperones had to be on constant alert to keep their eyes on the students, which was very taxing at times.
“I wish we could stay on this hay ride longer,” said first grade teacher, Lacey Yoder. “It’s so quiet on here. I like it.”
