The location at 2032-34 Frankford Ave. is nothing more than a large area of grass between two buildings. Recent plans from the housing company Postgreen Homes call to change that with the construction of an energy efficient three-story apartment complex.
The plan, which has been approved by the Philadelphia Zoning Board of Adjustment, is to create a commercial space on the first floor with four apartments above it, Postgreen’s President Chad Ludeman said. The vacant lot will become an affordable, high-quality, energy-efficient residence with trees planted in the front and possible bike racks.
The development of Frankford Avenue has been significant over the past several years. Steve Tobin, an employee of the Highwire Gallery, which is located next to the vacant lot, said he believes Frankford Avenue is a good place to develop. “This is where the money is,” said Tobin, “even if you usually see tumbleweeds going down the street.”
Postgreen has been developing other projects throughout Fishtown including an Avant Garage located behind Palmer Park, but the organization has been working on many projects along Frankford Avenue recently.
When asked what he would like to see built Tobin said, “I’d love an Asian restaurant. I’m sick of all these pubs.”
